Day Eleven - Final Farewells...Really....
Well our wonderful trip has come to an end. What started out as a big unknown has hopefully morphed into a joyful adventure with promises of more to come.
As we packed our belongings this morning we reminisced about the past eleven days and what it has meant to each of us. For me it was reuniting with a cousin I haven't seen in years, spending time with dear friends/parishioners and making new acquaintances who hopefully will become lifelong friends.
Our suitcases and hearts are full!
Vlado who owns the pension has for the past ten years overseen the renovation of the castle that once was owned by the Rakoczy family. They were the landlords of our ancestors and from whom they escaped when they left their homeland to venture off for a better life.
The castle was built in the 1300's but has been in ruin since the 1600's so you can only imagine what an undertaking this is. Vlado, rightfully so, is extremely proud of the efforts many people have and are making towards the renovation. He took us up by car to the top of the castle where we ventured around on foot as he explained what has been repaired, what is in process and what is to come.
We went back to the pension where he showed us a presentation of the history of the renovations and then it was off to load our vehicles, say our final goodbyes with photos of course.
We drove back to Krakow, returned our rental cars and checked into the airport hotel for our early am flight tomorrow. Drinks and dinner followed and now we are heading for an early bedtime as we need to be at the airport at 5:00 am.
So, until the next trip....
